MAN CITY AHEAD IN RACE FOR ARSENAL STAR

Premier League side Manchester City are keen on fighting rivals Arsenal for the signature of playmaker Alexis Sanchez.

While Chelsea and Manchester United are also in the race for the player, Man City holds the advantage.

Pep Guardiola has worked with the player at Barcelona and they maintain mutual regard for each other. The Spaniard has reportedly reached out personally to the Chilean as his focus in Arsenal gets further scrambled.

Arsenal are likely to finish out of the top four spot this term. The competition moved up another level and yet the Emirates dwellers keep losing matches. With eight games to spare, Arsene Wenger is struggling at keeping the team together amid record fans’ disapproval ratings.

Chelsea want Sanchez to boost their quality as they vie for continental glory next season; United might axe Wayne Rooney and Anthony Martial as they fail to make their mark in Jose Mourinho’s debut season at Old Trafford, while PSG want him to help realize their European domination.

Sanchez’s main issue at the North London club is the lack of ambition. Arsenal have not won the league in 13 years despite having the most experienced hands in Wenger. The club has not moved past the UEFA Champions League round of 16 stage for six years straight. And it does not look like it would change anytime soon. With Chelsea or Man City, there is a higher chance of ‘something’ happening next season compared to his current employers.

Guardiola would continue with his planned overhaul and he would be under pressure to perform next season – which are all good news in Sanchez’s ears. The Etihad Stadium offers him continuity of playing the English football he has exceled. He would have to decide his immediate future quick as his current deal enters its final 12 months.
