Manchester City have decided to extend the contract of veteran midfielder Yaya Toure following his promising performances during the recently concluded season.

The former Ivory Coast international initially struggled to make the matchday squad after his agent Dimitri Seluk hit out at Guardiola for humiliating his client.

The former Barcelona man, however, managed to patch up his shrewd relationship with Pep after he issued an apology on his behalf of his representative in order to get back into the squad. Toure had therein featured on a regular basis for the Citizens across all competitions, and his influence was made more pivotal owing to the season ending injury to Ilkay Gundogan.

A new contract was never in doubt for the 34-year-old enforcer, and the Citizens have now confirmed that the midfielder will be plying his trade at the Etihad for at least another stadium. Toure was delighted to have prolonged his City career, which has lasted seven seasons, and he is hoping to achieve more success in terms of silverware next term.

"I am delighted. I told myself the journey at City is not done "I am very lucky now to be part of a great club with great players around me who are helping me to achieve my targets," he told the club's official website.

"Of course I want to win trophies, which is very important to me. I want to enjoy it at this age still and remaining here is a massive, massive thing. It is a great club, going in the right direction with new players who are coming in."

Toure was one of the many players who started the City resurgence back in the summer of 2010, and he will be hoping to play a key role next season irrespective of the club's ongoing pursuit of world-class talents.
