Negredo Linked with Madrid Signing

Manchester City striker Roberto Negredo managed two lift trophies in his first season at the club after his £ 20 million arrival from Sevilla last summer. However, very poor form towards the end of last season meant that Negredo featured very rarely in the City team. He was also left out of the Spanish national team squad as a result of this poor form. This resulted in an indifferent first season. Due to the pace of change at City, he could be set for an exit just 12 months after his arrival. Negredo has been linked with a return to Spanish football with Atletico Madrid interested in his services.

The Champions League runners-up of last season recently lost Diego Costa to Chelsea for £ 32 million. They have been linked with strikers like Negredo and Mario Mandzukic. Atletico goalkeeper Miguel Angel Moya says that he expects Negredo to be a success at the Vicente Calderon should he decide to return to Spain. His exit from City will depend upon the club’s success in pursuits for the transfer targets. Apart from losing Costa, the club has also lost David Villa on a free transfer to New York City FC. Atletico, though, have managed to replace several great strikers in the last decade and will be confident of doing the same.

"On a personal level, among all of them, I can say that [Negredo] is my preferred choice, the ideal one, especially because I know him. He's Spanish and I like him a lot. But if we're talking about [Mario] Mandzukic, Jackson [Martinez] or [Romelu] Lukaku, they are also among the top 20 strikers in the world," said the Atletico goalkeeper. So far, the club has been trying to strengthen in several areas of the pitch. They have brought in a new £ 8 million left back.
